Graham Potter has held meetings with French club Nice over a potential return to management following his short stint in charge of Chelsea. The Ligue 1 side are owned by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, who is currently searching for a new manager for Nice. Didier Digard has been in temporary charge of the club since January when Lucien Favre was sacked after a French Cup defeat to Ligue 3 side Le Puy-en-Velay. According to Foot Mercato, there have already been two meetings between Nice and Potter’s representatives and that the Englishman is interested in the role, although he is yet to make a decision.
Potter rose to prominence by managing abroad, taking Ostersund from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the top flight and Europa League. He then returned to the UK and has since managed Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea, all of which went well until his disastrous stint with the Blues this season. Ratcliffe bought the French club in 2019 and Potter was appointed on 8 September last year, only to be sacked on 2 April after just 31 games in charge, 12 of which he won. Despite this, Leicester still approached him to be their new manager just one day after he was ousted from Stamford Bridge, although Potter rejected that approach.
Nice have a number of recognisable faces to Premier League fans, including Kasper Schmeichel, Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley and Nicolas Pepe, who has spent the season on loan from Arsenal. Potter may be tempted by a return slightly away from the limelight in Ligue 1 and a decision is expected soon.
