Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling became emotional while discussing eating disorders on Soccer Saturday. Stelling expressed his outrage at the UK government’s handling of the issue, calling it a “national disgrace”. He highlighted the Dump The Scales campaign, led by Hope Virgo, which is aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of eating disorders. Stelling also noted that more people die from eating disorders than any other mental illness, and that up to 20% of all cases end in death. He was particularly critical of the government’s decision to put calories on menus, and the fact that those with eating disorders are often told they are not thin enough to receive treatment. He called for urgent action to help those with eating disorders, stating that “no one should be dying of an eating disorder in 2023”.
