During an interview with talkSPORT, former Chelsea player Jason Cundy was hilariously kicked out of a bar in Madrid. Cundy was in the Spanish capital to watch Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid. Unfortunately for him, it was a tough night for Chelsea as they were beaten 2-0 on the night thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio. The result leaves the Premier League side with a mountain to climb at Stamford Bridge next week and failure to win pretty much rules Chelsea out of next season’s competition.
Following Wednesday’s clash, Cundy was live on air from a bar in Madrid as he unpacked all of the game’s talking points. A frustrated Cundy told talkSPORT of his difficulties in getting a drink in the bar. “You can’t get a drink without a passport. Honestly, this is terrible,” he said as his chances of drowning his sorrows quickly diminished. But it got worse for the talkSPORT host as he was then told to leave the bar to the amusement of the studio hosts in London.
Cundy is usually in the talkSPORT studio getting frustrated by co-host Jamie O’Hara, but was left frustrated by a Spanish barman instead. Revealing his thoughts on the second-leg, Cundy began to take an optimistic stance before being told to clear off. “Can I just say it’s not over,” he began defiantly as he looked ahead to the second leg before being stopped in his tracks. He was heard asking: “Have I got to get out?” A voice was then heard replying, ‘yeah’.
Cundy told the studio: “I’m getting kicked out of a bar, I can’t believe this,” as his talkSPORT colleagues began laughing, to which he replied: “You lot can do one!” Host Jamie O’Hara didn’t mind being blamed and, poking the bear once more, said: “We’ll call you back when you have your pint.” Cundy was having none of it. “Tell you what, don’t bother!”
It remains to be seen whether Cundy has the last laugh when Real Madrid head to Stamford Bridge for next week’s second leg. Chelsea have little to lose ahead of the game in what has been a poor season with the Blue sitting 11th in the Premier League. Awaiting the winner of the tie is either Manchester City or Bayern Munich in what looks to be a blockbuster semi-final clash. City are firm favourites after a 3-0 first-leg victory over the Bundesliga giants. Jason will be back with Jamie on Monday for the Sports Bar from 10pm on talkSPORT.
