Jamie Carragher thinks 99 per cent of Manchester United fans will side with Erik ten Hag over Cristiano Ronaldo and jokes Roy Keane will be among minority backing the player

Jamie Carragher believes Erik ten Hag, not Cristiano Ronaldo, will have the majority of Manchester United fans behind him.

In an explosive interview with Piers Morgan on Talk TV, Ronaldo appeared to end his Old Trafford career, telling the nation he has no respect for his boss.

This comes after a season of lows for the 37-year-old, who was looking for an exit strategy in the summer.

He stayed put in the end, but has found starts for the Premier League side hard to come by and has fallen out with Ten Hag.

Last month he was dropped for the Premier League clash against Chelsea after refusing to come on a substitute against Tottenham and walking down the tunnel at Old Trafford before the full-time whistle.

Ronaldo told Talk TV of the United manager: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

Watching, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who Ronaldo also seemingly has no time for, reckons one of United’s greatest ever players has got it all wrong.

On Twitter, he wrote: “Ronaldo under [Erik ten Hag]: Announced he wanted to leave, refused to come on as a substitute, walked off the bench and left before the game had finished.

“Ninety nine per cent of United fans will be on the side of ETH, which shows how badly Ronaldo has handled this.”

He then joked the one per cent of his supporters could come in the form of his former teammates Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Patrice Evra, who have publicly defended him.

In the interview, he also hit back at Wayne Rooney, who called him out for his behaviour in a talkSPORT interview as well as former boss Ralf Rangnick.

Ronaldo joined United from Juventus last summer for his second spell at the club after leaving the club for Real Madrid in 2009.

He top scored with 24 goals, but the club’s failure at qualifying for the Champions League led to his decision to try and get out.

A number of options were looked and it is expected he will now leave in January.

He won’t see his boss for at least a month while he plays for Portugal at the World Cup, which begins on 20 November.
