Jamie Carragher believes that as many as nine Premier League managers could be in contention for the Manager of the Season award. The Liverpool legend was impressed with Roberto De Zerbi’s masterminding of Brighton’s 3-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday and thinks he is a contender for the award. Carragher also listed Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Eddie Howe, Unai Emery, Thomas Frank, Gary O’Neil, Marco Silva and Julen Lopetegui as potential contenders.
De Zerbi took a big step closer to securing Brighton’s first ever European campaign with the win over Arsenal in north London, climbing to sixth in the table with the three points. He knows the job is not done yet, though, and said after downing the Gunners: ‘I’m really pleased with the performance but the season is not finished for us. The 58 points on the table we have are not enough, we are fighting for a big, big target so we have to win more games.’
