James Rodriguez has had his contract with Olympiacos terminated with immediate effect. The former Real Madrid star joined the Greek side at the start of the season but has played just 23 games for the club before being released. As a result, he is now a free agent and available on the market.
Rodriguez became a global superstar following his six goals for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup. During his short period in Greece, he contributed five goals and six assists. However, this is the fourth time in three years that he is seeking a new club.
Galatasaray and Besiktas have already been linked with a move for the South American forward, according to AS. Rodriguez has not played since February due to injury. He joined Real Madrid immediately after his World Cup heroics nine years ago and bagged 37 goals in 123 matches for the Spanish giants before departing for Everton in 2020.
During his spell at the Bernabeu, he also spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich. However, a dismal campaign at Goodison Park saw him leave for Qatari side Al-Rayyan in 2021. But after just 16 appearances in 12 months, he left the Middle East to join Olympiacos.
Despite his club career continuing to decline, Rodriguez is still receiving caps for his country. He has now made 90 appearances for Colombia and scored as recently as last month in a 2-2 draw with South Korea.
