Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson will be making his season debut when the Jaguars face off against the Buffalo Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Robinson was suspended for the first four games of the season due to a violation of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Despite his suspension, Robinson traveled with the team to London for their game against the Atlanta Falcons on October 1 and has been practicing at left tackle throughout the week.
Head coach Doug Pederson had initially stated that he would wait until Saturday before making any official announcements regarding Robinson’s return. However, it seems that Robinson’s performance in practice has been impressive enough to secure his spot on the field for Sunday’s game.
In Robinson’s absence, Walker Little had been starting at left tackle for the Jaguars. However, with Robinson’s return, Little will be moving to left guard and will play in that position against the Bills. Ben Bartch, the starting left guard, was benched for the Falcons game and replaced by veteran backup Tyler Shatley.
Robinson’s performance in the 2022 season was less than stellar, as he ranked 59th in pass block win rate among offensive tackles, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Additionally, he missed the final three games of the regular season and both of the Jaguars’ playoff games due to a knee injury sustained in a game against the Dallas Cowboys on December 18.
Despite his struggles and injury history, Robinson has been a consistent presence on the Jaguars’ offensive line since being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has started 75 games for the Jaguars throughout his career.
Robinson’s return comes at a crucial time for the Jaguars, as they face a tough opponent in the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have one of the top defenses in the league and will likely put pressure on the Jaguars’ offensive line. Robinson’s experience and skill will be valuable in protecting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and giving him time to make plays.
The Jaguars’ offensive line has been a point of concern this season, with Lawrence being sacked 15 times in the first four games. The return of Robinson should provide some stability and improve the overall performance of the line.
In addition to Robinson’s return, the Jaguars will also be relying on other key players to step up and contribute. Wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. has been placed on injured reserve, leaving a void in the receiving corps. Players like Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. will need to step up and make plays to help Lawrence and the offense.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Jaguars will be looking to continue their strong performance from last week’s game against the Falcons. The defense recorded six sacks and forced three turnovers in that game, and they will need to bring that same level of intensity against the Bills.
Overall, Robinson’s return is a positive development for the Jaguars as they look to improve their performance and secure a win against the Bills. His experience and skill will be crucial in protecting Lawrence and giving the offense a chance to succeed. With key players stepping up on both sides of the ball, the Jaguars have a chance to come away with a victory on Sunday.
