    Sharpe, 51, believes United will obtain the best from Sancho once the gifted forward reaches his confident, marauding best.

    For only scoring five goals last season Sancho already has two strikes in pre-season, suggesting his fortunes have switched.

    Sharpe added: “He needs some confidence, some a run within the team. I understand he’d some an injuries problem this past year which wouldn’t have helped.

    “And it appears as though this season the manager will have they playing some a greater tempo football, a bit greater in the pitch that we think will suit his game too.”
