Ivan Toney Reveals Admiration for Arsenal and Confirms He is a Liverpool Supporter

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has revealed his admiration for Arsenal and has also confirmed that he is a Liverpool supporter. Toney has registered 68 goals and 21 assists across 124 games for Brentford and has long been linked with a move to a bigger club.

Any hope of a transfer took a hit, though, when Toney was handed a lengthy ban for gambling in May. Toney is not allowed to play again until January 17 next year and has been banned from training with Brentford until September 17.

While he is suspended, Toney has opened up about his love of both Arsenal and Liverpool. ‘Yeah, [I’m a] Liverpool fan,’ the 27-year-old told The Diary of a CEO podcast. ‘I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I have liked Arsenal, I like watching Arsenal and how they play and kind of how passionate the fans are. But, yeah, Liverpool fan – Liverpool boy at heart.’

Meanwhile, Toney says he is currently in ‘football prison’ due to his eight-month ban and has questioned the timing of the charges brought against him. ‘Personally, I feel like it was a bit of a questionable time when they decided to bring it all out, and then when they actually dealt with the situation at the end of the season, I felt like, ‘why did you bring it out then?’,’ Toney added.

‘Yes, I’m banned now, but the biggest punishment was me missing out of the World Cup, personally. I felt more hurt and down around the time, like someone was out to get me at the time to stop me playing for England.’

Ivan Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban for gambling offences which has put his hopes of a transfer to a bigger club on hold. Despite this setback, the Brentford striker has revealed his admiration for Arsenal and confirmed he is a lifelong Liverpool supporter.

Toney has long been linked with a move away from Brentford due to his impressive goal-scoring record of 68 goals and 21 assists across 124 games. However, any hope of a transfer was put on hold when he was handed an eight-month ban for gambling offences in May.

The 27-year-old is not allowed to play again until January 17 next year and has been banned from training with Brentford until September 17. During this time, Toney has opened up about his love of both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Toney said: ‘Yeah, [I’m a] Liverpool fan. I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I have liked Arsenal, I like watching Arsenal and how they play and kind of how passionate the fans are. But, yeah, Liverpool fan – Liverpool boy at heart.’

Toney also spoke about his eight-month ban and questioned the timing of the charges brought against him. He said: ‘Personally, I feel like it was a bit of a questionable time when they decided to bring it all out, and then when they actually dealt with the situation at the end of the season, I felt like, ‘why did you bring it out then?’

‘Yes, I’m banned now, but the biggest punishment was me missing out of the World Cup, personally. I felt more hurt and down around the time, like someone was out to get me at the time to stop me playing for England.’

Toney’s ban means he will miss out on potentially lucrative transfers this summer as well as the chance to represent England at the World Cup. Despite this setback, Toney remains positive and is determined to make the most of his time off by focusing on improving his game.

It is clear that Ivan Toney is an ambitious player who is determined to make it to the top despite his current predicament. His admiration for both Arsenal and Liverpool suggests that he could be an ideal signing for either club once his ban is up.
