“Ivan Rakitic Joins Hadjuk Split After Ending Al-Shabab Deal: A New Chapter Begins”

Date:

Ivan Rakitic, the Croatian midfielder who retired from international football in 2020, has found a new club after terminating his contract with Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League. Rakitic, 36 years old, has joined Croatian side Hadjuk Split on a one-year deal, with an option for an additional year.

Rakitic’s departure from Al-Shabab was a mutual agreement in order for him to pursue a “unique opportunity.” Although Al-Shabab is not one of the four Public Investment Fund (PIF) funded clubs in Saudi Arabia, they have made notable signings in the past, including Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid last summer and Ever Banega from Sevilla in 2020.

In a statement on social media, Rakitic expressed his gratitude towards Al-Shabab supporters and staff, describing his time in Saudi Arabia as an “enriching and unforgettable experience.” He emphasized that his decision to leave was driven by a personal choice.

Rakitic’s career has been filled with success, having won 16 titles throughout his spells with Basel, Schalke, Sevilla, and Barcelona. He played a crucial role in Sevilla’s Europa League triumphs in 2014 and 2023, and he also won four La Liga titles with Barcelona, including the coveted Champions League crown in 2015.

The move to Hadjuk Split allows Rakitic to continue his football journey in his home country. It presents him with an opportunity to contribute to the success of a club he is familiar with and further cement his legacy.

Rakitic’s transfer raises questions about the transfer activity in Saudi Arabia this summer. While other clubs have made significant signings, there has been relative quiet from Saudi clubs in terms of high-profile transfers. However, this could be part of a strategic plan or an indication of a shift in the approach to building teams.

Overall, Ivan Rakitic’s move to Hadjuk Split marks a new chapter in his career. After a successful and trophy-laden journey across various clubs and international competitions, he now returns to his roots to continue making an impact in Croatian football. His decision to leave Al-Shabab reflects his ambition and desire for new challenges, and it will be exciting to see what he brings to his new team.
