‘It doesn’t seem fair’ – Gareth Bale amazes Jon Rahm as world no.3 says ‘you can’t be this good at football and golf’

GARETH BALE stunned US Open winner Jon Rahm with his golf skills as the pair played nine holes together at Torrey Pines in San Diego on Tuesday.

The Welsh legend, 33, retired from football earlier this month after a glittering career playing for the likes of Tottenham and Real Madrid.

Now he is turning his attention towards golf as he prepares to play in February’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am which features a field of 156 professionals and 156 amateurs.

He shared some time on the course with world No3 Rahm ahead of his debut next month.

And Bale by no means disgraced himself as Spanish golfer Rahm, 28, talked up his ability.

Speaking to Marca, he said: “I told Gareth you just can’t be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn’t seem fair.

“You can’t be dedicated to one thing and still have this much talent for golf, it’s not fair in the slightest.”

Seemingly unaware Bale had retired from football, he then added: “But he’s looking to retire soon and he loves this sport and he loves golf.

“He really wants to play a little bit more and hopefully in the future I’ll see him more times in the Pro-Am.”

Rahm is the favourite to win the Pro-Am event which Bale will make his debut at in the first week of February.

It is the same course the Spaniard claimed his only major title on in 2021.

And Rahm was quizzed on whether or not the ex-Spurs man had asked for any tips.

To which he replied: “He didn’t ask for anything, and nor should he be asking, he’s good enough.

“Like I said he has no business being that good when he’s a professional football player. The second he’s done and he can practice a lot more he’s gonna get a lot better.

“He got two strokes, which I think is already wrong. He should be giving strokes back to the rest of the amateurs because he’s already a very, very good player.”

Actor Bill Murray is another high-profile name who will tee off at the event.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is also set to compete.

They will come up against the likes of US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick and world number five Patrick Cantlay.
