Ipswich Town Agrees £9m Deal to Sign Blackburn Rovers Striker Sammie Szmodics

Date:

Ipswich Town has reportedly reached a £9 million agreement with Blackburn Rovers to sign striker Sammie Szmodics. The 28-year-old attracted interest from multiple clubs last season after winning the Championship Golden Boot. With a total of 27 goals from 44 games, he finished six goals ahead of second-placed Adam Armstrong. Leeds United had shown interest in signing Szmodics, but it appears he is now on the verge of moving to Ipswich.

According to Sky Sports, the deal is set to be finalized after Szmodics undergoes a medical on Friday morning. This potential signing comes as Ipswich is already on the brink of securing Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan from Manchester City. However, there is no option to buy included in the deal for Phillips.

The addition of Szmodics and Phillips will complement the club’s other new signings, including club-record £20 million signing Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap. Ipswich Town is clearly investing in strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

In other news, music megastar Ed Sheeran has acquired a minority stake in Ipswich Town, adding to the excitement surrounding the club. Sheeran expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.” Having lived in Suffolk since a young age, Sheeran feels a strong connection to the community and the club. He emphasized that he is not a voting shareholder or a board member, but rather someone who is investing in the club he loves.

With the new signings and the involvement of Ed Sheeran, Ipswich Town is generating buzz and anticipation among fans. The upcoming season is set to be an exciting one for the club. As Sheeran said, “I’m excited for the Premier League to start this weekend. Let’s go!”

In other transfer news, Chelsea is on the verge of signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen in an extraordinary player-swap deal worth £85 million. However, there is uncertainty surrounding Conor Gallagher’s proposed move to Atletico Madrid, as the Chelsea midfielder’s transfer is in doubt. Additionally, Newcastle has reportedly made a third bid for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
