Inter Milan Eyeing Hugo Lloris as Replacement for Manchester United-Bound Andre Onana
Inter Milan is reportedly interested in signing Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris as a replacement for Andre Onana, who is on the verge of joining Manchester United. According to French paper L’Equipe, Inter has been in talks with Lloris for several weeks, and discussions are expected to intensify as Onana’s move to United draws closer. Lloris, 36, has one year remaining on his contract with Tottenham, but the club is open to offers for their long-term number one goalkeeper.
Tottenham recently signed Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli in a £16 million deal, which could have been an alternative option for Inter. However, Lloris has been considering his options and reportedly has two lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia on the table. He is also believed to have other options from clubs around Europe to consider.
At the end of last season, Lloris expressed his desire for something new as he reaches the twilight of his career. He told Nice-Matin, “We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me. It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen. The most important thing is I find a project where I thrive.”
In addition to Lloris, Inter Milan has also shown interest in Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Sommer joined Bayern in January as a cover for injured number one Manuel Neuer but could seek a first-choice role elsewhere following Neuer’s recovery.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is keen to have Onana join their pre-season tour in the United States later this month. The Cameroonian goalkeeper’s arrival at Old Trafford is expected to mark the end of David de Gea’s tenure as the club’s long-term number one. De Gea’s contract with United expired on June 30, and although the club asked him not to sign with any other team while they explored the goalkeeper market, his agent is now set to meet with Fenerbahce to discuss a potential free transfer. There are also rumors that De Gea is a target for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi side Al-Nassr.
As the transfer window continues, it remains to be seen whether Inter Milan will successfully secure Hugo Lloris as their new goalkeeper or if he will opt for one of the other offers on the table. Manchester United, on the other hand, seems determined to bring Andre Onana to Old Trafford as they look to rebuild their squad for the upcoming season.
