Inter Miami Soccer Club Continues Roster Evolution: Mota Transfer and Interest in Rojas
The Inter Miami Soccer Club is making some significant moves in the transfer market as the team looks to strengthen its roster for the 2024 season. The club has reached a deal to transfer midfielder Jean Mota to Brazilian club Vitoria, pending receipt of the international transfer certificate (ITC). This transfer comes after Mota joined Miami ahead of the 2022 season from Brazilian side Santos and made 53 appearances for the club. However, he missed much of 2023 due to a long-term injury. Mota managed to make two appearances off the bench in Miami’s first three MLS games of the 2024 season.
Mota’s departure is not the only change happening at Inter Miami. The club recently traded U.S. national team right back DeAndre Yedlin to FC Cincinnati, opening up around $1.5 million in salary cap flexibility. With this newfound financial freedom, Inter Miami has shown interest in signing Paraguayan attacking midfielder Matías Rojas. However, no deal is imminent as it would depend on the resolution of an ongoing contract dispute with Brazilian club Corinthians. Rojas has reportedly been in a disagreement over missed image rights payments and is seeking to terminate his contract.
Rojas, 28, joined Corinthians in 2023 after excelling with Racing Club and has made 30 appearances for the club. He also has 16 caps with the Paraguayan national team. Miami’s interest in Rojas was first reported by CL Merlo, and if a deal can be reached, it would undoubtedly add depth and talent to Inter Miami’s midfield.
In addition to potential new signings, Inter Miami will also see the debut of their new midfield signing, Federico Redondo. The highly-rated Argentine youth international was acquired for a fee of around $8 million from Argentinos Juniors. Redondo arrived in Miami on Tuesday after receiving his visa and is expected to make his debut in the CONCACAF Champions Cup match against Nashville SC on Thursday.
The Inter Miami Soccer Club has had a solid start to the 2024 season, with two wins and a draw in their first three MLS matches. The team will now shift their focus to the CONCACAF Champions Cup as they face Nashville SC in the round of 16 first leg. The winner of this match will advance to face either FC Cincinnati or CF Monterrey.
As Inter Miami continues to evolve its roster and make strategic moves in the transfer market, fans are excited to see how these changes will impact the team’s performance. With the departure of Jean Mota and the potential addition of Matías Rojas, the club is showing its commitment to building a strong and competitive squad for the season ahead.
