Frank Lampard says that he’s not surprised by interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but insists that the striker is fully focused on Everton’s fight to avoid relegation.
The England striker has been heavily linked with moves to both Arsenal and Newcastle United over the course of this season, with speculation suggesting the Toffees would be open to cashing in on the player to ease their financial woes this summer.
For the 25-year-old, it’s been a disjointed season with injury limiting him to just 15 appearances this term, scoring three goals in the process.
With Everton currently embroiled in a battle to avoid the drop, Lampard will be desperate for Calvert-Lewin to play his part for the Toffees, something that the head coach has no reservations about.
Discussing the speculation, Lampard said: “He has not said anything to me like that.
“He trains well and we speak a lot, and he’s said nothing like that. I’m not silly, this is football and he’s a player that would be wanted by clubs because of the level of player he is.
“There are not many strikers out there.
“They cost a lot of money. I am not worried about him at all and I wouldn’t be worried about playing him in these games.
“He is absolutely focused on the job.
“He’s been a big player for Everton and Everton have been a big club for him in his career.”
Lampard added: “He has three years left on his contract, and I want to take this club forward. Players like Dominic help that.
“I know he hasn’t been playing at the minute because he’s been getting fit but now he’s fit so hopefully he’ll contribute in these last few games for starters.”
