‘I think it will happen’ – Mykhailo Mudryk’s Arsenal transfer ‘getting closer’ as Gunners look to wrap up deal for ten-goal Chelsea target

Mykhailo Mudryk’s move to Arsenal ‘will happen’, talkSPORT has been told.

The Ukrainian starlet has emerged as the Gunners’ top transfer target in the January window as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents due to his form for Shakhtar Donetsk.

So far this term, the left-sided player has bagged ten goals and provided eight assists in 18 appearances so far, including three goals and two assists in the Champions League.

That’s why Arsenal are so keen to sign him, with Premier League rivals Chelsea also reportedly interested.

Shakhtar value Mudryk at £88million, a fee the Gunners are yet to reach in their negotiations, having already made two offers.

But, according to talkSPORT’s transfer insider Alex Crook, there’s a feeling that a deal may not be too far away.

Speaking to Laura Woods on the Sports Breakfast, Crook said: “I think that will happen.

“Negotiations are still going on, I know that Chelsea’s name keeps being bandied around, but he wants to join Arsenal.

“Mikel Arteta is very keen to sign him. I think the two clubs are getting closer.”

Mudryk has made no secret of his desire to become a Gunner.

In November the 22-year-old revealed in an interview with fellow Ukrainian and Gunners left back Oleksandr Zinchenko’s wife – Vlada – that he admired the club’s style of play and kept up with their results.

The player’s more recent social media posts also suggest he sees Arsenal as his ideal destination, after sharing snaps of him watching the Premier League leaders in action as Arsenal beat Brighton 4-2.

He also labelled Arteta as a ‘top coach’ in the post.
