# Newcastle Thrash Sheffield United 8-0 in Premier League

Newcastle United have made history in the Premier League after thrashing Sheffield United 8-0 on Sunday. It was the biggest away win in the competition since Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 9-0 in 1995.

The Magpies were in scintillating form, with five different players getting on the scoresheet. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe joked after the game that “he can’t even remember the goalscorers”.

The result was a huge blow for Sheffield United, who have now lost all four of their opening Premier League games this season. They are yet to score a single goal, and are already facing a battle to stay in the division.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have made an impressive start to the season, and are now up to sixth in the table. They have won three of their four matches so far, and have scored 12 goals in the process.

The match at Bramall Lane was a one-sided affair from start to finish. Newcastle took the lead after just two minutes, when Joelinton fired home from close range. The Magpies then doubled their lead shortly before half-time, with Jonjo Shelvey curling a stunning effort into the top corner.

The second half saw Newcastle run riot, with Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff and Jamal Lewis all getting on the scoresheet. It was a performance that will live long in the memory of Newcastle fans.

Speaking after the game, Howe said: “It was a fantastic performance from us today. We were clinical in front of goal and we defended well too. We’re delighted with the result and it’s a great way to start the season.”

The result means that Newcastle have now scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League this season. They will be looking to continue their good form when they face Burnley next weekend.

If you missed any of the action from Sunday’s match, you can watch highlights of all the Premier League action on Match Of The Day 2 on Sunday 24 September at 22:30 BST on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website & app.
