Failing to score, he was mocked by fans online, but did find the back of the net as the Gunners won 5-0 against the MLS All-Stars a day later.
Since his volley, Havertz, who recently joined the club from Chelsea in a £65million deal, took to social media to slam his critics.
The Germany international uploaded a picture, with the caption that read: ‘Hav that’ alongside a target and a yawning emoji.
Havertz later followed it up with another message, which bears a resemblance to a catch-phrase by former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, saying: “But in all seriousness.. Really nice feeling to get my first @arsenal goal! Thank you to the fans for the amazing support this week!”
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his new star following his goal, saying: “I think, again, it’s one of the main qualities he has.
“He gives us something very different with his quality and size as well, when you have to beat the press for example and use him as a target man.
“So, we will see – for now, he’s playing in the attacking midfield position, but I’m sure throughout the season and throughout games as well, we’re going to have the options to play him in different positions.”
Arsenal go head-to-head against Manchester United on Saturday before facing Barcelona the following Thursday.
