Jeff Stelling: From Burnley Fan to Hartlepool United’s Biggest Supporter

Jeff Stelling, the new host of talkSPORT Breakfast, is widely known for his infectious on-screen personality and his passionate support for Hartlepool United. However, it may come as a surprise to many that Hartlepool was not his first love.

A Surprising Revelation

During his breakfast show on Tuesday, Stelling revealed that he was actually a boyhood fan of Premier League club Burnley. As a young boy, Stelling used to write to various big teams, asking for programs and memorabilia. While most teams ignored him, Burnley always sent back a load of stuff. This kind gesture from Burnley won Stelling’s heart, even though he didn’t know where Burnley was at the time.

From Burnley to Hartlepool

Despite his initial allegiance to Burnley, Stelling eventually found his true passion in Hartlepool United. In 2015, he was appointed as the president of the club, a position he still holds today. Stelling’s dedication to Hartlepool goes beyond his role as a supporter. In 2015, he completed 15 marathons in 15 days alongside the club’s Chief Executive Russ Green, raising over £800,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. His efforts earned him the title of JustGiving’s Fundraiser of the Year.

A True Advocate

Stelling’s love for Hartlepool United is not just limited to his role as a supporter and president. He has been an important figure in raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK, a cause close to his heart. His infectious enthusiasm and dedication to both Hartlepool United and charitable causes have made him a beloved figure in the football community.
