Harry Kane’s future is set to be a huge talking point when the summer transfer window opens in June. The 29-year-old is approaching the end of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur and is yet to win a trophy in North London having come through the club’s academy. Kane, who this season became the highest goalscorer in Tottenham’s history, has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Premier League rivals Manchester United. His current six-year deal, signed back in 2018, is worth up to £200,000 a week including bonuses.
Kane has gone trophyless with Spurs since reaching the Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid in 2019. Since then, the highest the club have finished in the Premier League is fourth, while they have also failed to progress past the fifth round of the FA Cup and were beaten by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in 2021. With Kane entering the final 12 months of his contract, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will have a big decision to make this summer. He could decide to sell Kane to guarantee a transfer fee for the club, or he could elect to keep his star man for next season in the hope of eventually persuading him to sign a new contract – but this would risk Kane walking away from the club as a free agent in 2024.
According to The Telegraph, the growing expectation is that Kane will not sign a new contract with Tottenham. Manchester United are thought to be laying the groundwork ahead of a potential bid this summer, with Tottenham set to demand at least £100 million to part company with him. Bayern Munich also have an interest in acquiring Kane’s services, but The Telegraph state he is keen to stay in England and break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record.
