Harry Kane Receives Standing Ovation at Tottenham in Pre-Season Friendly
In a pre-season friendly match between Bayern Munich and Tottenham, former Spurs player Harry Kane received a warm welcome from the fans at his former club. Kane, who left Tottenham to join Bayern for a record-breaking fee last summer, came on as a late substitute in the match. Despite only returning to training on Friday after his Euro 2024 campaign with England, Kane felt it was important for him to play at least 10 minutes.
Kane expressed his gratitude for the reception he received from the Spurs fans, stating that he didn’t have a chance to say goodbye properly last year when he made the move to Bayern. He described the support he has received from the Tottenham fans throughout his career as “incredible” and thanked them for their continued support.
Not only was Kane applauded when he entered the pitch, but he was also given a solo lap of honor at the end of the game. The striker expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to see the fans again and thanked them for their unwavering support.
In addition to Kane, another former Tottenham player, Eric Dier, who joined Bayern in January, was also given a warm welcome back. Both players were presented with gifts by Spurs before kick-off to acknowledge their contributions to the club.
The match itself saw Tottenham take an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski, but Bayern Munich made a comeback with goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, and Thomas Muller, taking a 3-1 lead. Kulusevski managed to score a second goal for Spurs, reducing the deficit, but Bayern held on to secure the victory.
Elsewhere in pre-season friendlies, Bournemouth secured a 3-2 win against Girona after the departure of Dominic Solanke. Aston Villa suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, while West Ham won on penalties against Celta Vigo.
Newcastle United secured a 1-0 victory against Brest, Everton drew 1-1 with Roma, and Wolves were beaten 1-0 by Rayo Vallecano. Leicester City suffered a 3-0 loss against Lens in France, while Brighton continued their successful pre-season campaign with a 4-0 win against Villarreal.
Fulham, who recently signed Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal, secured a 2-0 victory against Hoffenheim in Germany. Smith Rowe scored a goal from a tight angle, and Adama Traore added a second for Fulham.
Overall, these pre-season friendlies provided teams with an opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and assess their squad ahead of the upcoming season. For players like Harry Kane and Eric Dier, it was a chance to reunite with their former clubs and show their appreciation for the support they received throughout their careers.
