Harry Kane commented on Harry Maguires ‘fantastic’ run in England training, but told the defender how to ‘get a few extra thousand likes’.
The Three Lions are undergoing their final preparations for their World Cup opener against Iran, with Tottenham’s Kane revealing the physical work is done and it’s now about the training pitch.
There’s been plenty of media access as England’s stars have been put through their paces following their arrival in Qatar, but one of the most viral clips yet has come from Manchester United’s Maguire.
The defender didn’t look at all out of place as he beat Phil Foden with a 360 degree turn before sending Conor Coady spinning and then unleashing a shot at Nick Pope.
There’s no one better to judge the effort than England’s second-highest scorer of all-time, Kane, who offered some advice.
“Look it’s a fantastic, fantastic run, fantastic skill, but I would have loved to have seen the back of the net ripple, that’s all I’m going to say,” Kane said with a smile.
“H, very good, but just missing the final bit, just to get a few extra thousand likes on social media, if it hit the back of the net.
“Unfortunately Popey has made a good save there, but he’s got a big smile on his face after.

“I don’t know if you can zoom into that, he’s loving life.
“Fair play, I like to see our defenders coming out with the ball and he made a great job of that.”
Kane also discussed how training has changed for England now they’re acclimated to the Qatar heat – having been chugging beetroot slushies and using huge misting fans to cool down – with the finishing touches being made ahead of kick-off.
He said: “We know Iran are going to be really difficult and they’re going to have a lot of support here obviously being close to Qatar so we’re going to have to be ready.
“The boys are preparing well and the bulk of the training physically has been done now which is great and it’s now about sharpening for Monday.”
Maguire’s fellow England defender John Stones has been speaking about Maguire and gave huge praise for his mentality.
He said: “Incredibly mentality to have. Such a huge moment in English football, what he did and what he’s done for the England team. He himself and the things he’s done.
“The periods of time that have been difficult with what he’s gone through and how he’s come out of that. I can only praise him for what he’s done.
“I’ve got a lot of incredible memories with him as well.”
