Harry Kane is considering his future at Tottenham Hotspur, with reports suggesting that he must ‘force through’ an exit this summer in order to secure a move to Manchester United. The England captain will enter the final year of his deal at the end of the season and there is ‘growing concern’ from the club that he will not commit to a new contract. This leaves Spurs in a precarious position, as they are determined to keep Kane for the duration of his career, but if they do not entertain offers this summer he could walk away for free in 2024.
Should Spurs be forced to sell, they would rather offload Kane to a foreign giant like Bayern Munich for a fee of around £80m. However, Kane’s preference is to remain in England as he is desperate to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. Daniel Levy, Spurs’ chairman, is a notoriously hard negotiator and he would demand upwards of £100m in order for him to sell Kane to a Premier League rival.
Kane has 15 months left on his deal and Sky Sports say he will have to do everything he can to ‘force through’ an exit. This raises the possibility of Kane handing in a transfer request and going public with his desire to leave, which would ease Levy’s ability to ‘sell’ the idea to supporters. However, Levy is facing increasing pressure at the club following his decision to sack Cristian Stellini after 28 days in charge as interim manager. Spurs face United at home on Thursday evening.
