Hannibal Mejbri’s time at Manchester United may be coming to an end as Sevilla is reportedly close to finalizing a loan deal for the young star. This move comes as no surprise, as Mejbri has had limited opportunities this season and was expected to leave Old Trafford on loan in January.
Sevilla has been leading the race for Mejbri’s signature, and despite a late enquiry from Everton, it is reported that both United and the player himself prefer a move to Spain. The Athletic reports that a deal between the two clubs is progressing, but it is unlikely to be completed until after the weekend, potentially allowing Mejbri to play against Tottenham on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag’s squad at Sevilla is currently lacking midfielders due to injuries and Sofyan Amrabat’s participation at AFCON. However, these issues are expected to be resolved by the end of the month. Interestingly, the deal with Sevilla is said to include an option to buy, which could mark the end of Mejbri’s time with Manchester United.
Mejbri joined United from Monaco in 2019 for around £8.6 million, so if the buy clause is triggered, United stands to make a significant profit on the player. However, if the transfer becomes permanent, United will also have a buy-back clause in Mejbri’s contract, potentially leading to a new chapter in his Old Trafford career in the future.
It’s not just Mejbri who is leaving United on loan this January. Jadon Sancho is also set to return to Borussia Dortmund in the coming days.
In the current season, Mejbri has made only 10 appearances, with just four starts and one full 90-minute game. United values their young talent but acknowledges that first-team opportunities have been hard to come by.
