Erling Haaland, the record-breaking striker for Manchester City, believes that his Norwegian teammate Martin Odegaard should have won the Player of the Year award instead of him. Haaland’s 52 goals helped Manchester City win the Premier League title, overtaking Odegaard’s Arsenal. However, Haaland thinks that Odegaard, who is a playmaker for Arsenal, deserved the individual award from the Football Writers. Haaland also believes that some of his City colleagues, particularly Rodri, were unlucky to go unnoticed by critics.
Despite finishing the Premier League season as an unused substitute in the final-day loss against Brentford, Haaland is content to give credit to players who put in the hard work behind him, including an Arsenal rival. He stated that if he had to choose another player to have won the Player of the Year award, it would be Odegaard, who had a fantastic season. Haaland also mentioned that there were other teammates in Manchester City who could have easily won the award because they were outstanding throughout the season. He singled out Rodri, who he believes was solid throughout the campaign but went unnoticed because he played in midfield and pulled everything together.
Manchester City hopes to add Champions League and FA Cup glory to their fifth Premier League crown in the last six seasons. If they achieve a Treble, it would be an extraordinary feat for Haaland, who was a former hero at Borussia Dortmund.
