Manchester City defender Kyle Walker missed Tuesday’s training session due to a ‘disturbance in his back’, confirmed manager Pep Guardiola. Walker had recently regained the faith of Guardiola and had played in both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid and in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester United. Despite the setback, Guardiola is unconcerned and is confident that his side will be ready for the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday, where they are aiming for an historic treble.
Walker himself dismissed the issue, saying: ‘I’m fine, I’m just getting old! No, I’m completely fine. It’s just an extra day of recovery. I’ve played a lot over the last number of weeks, the manager has just said stay inside and come Saturday you’ll be raring to go.’
Guardiola accepted the role of favourites going into the game, saying: ‘We are used to it. Why should be more dangerous if we are favourites or not favourites? It’s what we do in 95 minutes. I accept the role and we go out there and try. We accept what people say, no problem at all.’
