Graham Potter’s Chelsea ‘the worst in 10 years’ as impact of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Broja criticised

Tony Cascarino believes that Graham Potter’s side are the worst Chelsea team in 10 years.

The Blues have endured a disjointed start to the campaign having won just six of their opening 14 matches in the Premier League.

As a result, it means that the west London side go into the World Cup break eight points behind fourth-place Tottenham following their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.

One of the most telling statistics for Chelsea is that they’ve scored just 17 goals in 14 matches, a record that puts them 13th in the top-flight’s scoring charts.

Goals win games and according to former striker Cascarino, it’s clear to see where Potter’s side are falling short.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Weekend Breakfast, Cascarino said: “They’ve lost their way slightly.

“They don’t look like scoring goals in the centre-forward position, but I can’t believe how many players are playing so poorly for Chelsea. That is what’s really surprising.

“What I’m watching now is probably the worst Chelsea team that they’ve had over the last 10 years because I really don’t know what they’re about.

“My one reservation when Graham Potter got the job was that he’s basically a pragmatic manager but never really had centre-forwards.

“I know he had Maupay and Welbeck, but they weren’t prolific for him.”

Cascarino added: “No one looks like scoring on a regular basis.

“Let’s take the last three Premier League games. Your centre-forward against Brighton was [Kai] Havertz and they lost 4-1. The centre-forward against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge was [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and they lost 1-0. Against Newcastle it was [Armando] Broja.

“So in the last three Premier League games they’ve had a different striker so that rings alarm bell immediately. That is a real problem to have as a manager.”
