Graham Potter, Zinedine Zidane, and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino lead contenders to replace Thomas Tuchel as new Chelsea manager

Chelsea have taken the shock decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel and the task of replacing him will now begin.

The Blues invested heavily over the summer, spending millions on Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But the west Londoners have started the campaign poorly, taking 10 points from their opening six Premier League games and losing on the road at Leeds and Southampton.

The decision was taken to axe Tuchel even before Chelsea’s opening Champions League group game defeat to minnows Dinamo Zagreb last night, talkSPORT understands.

Chelsea said in a statement: “As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.”

Chelsea will now start the process of finding Tuchel’s replacement and the early favourite is Brighton boss Graham Potter.

The bookies believe the Englishman is the man Todd Boehly wants to take the Stamford Bridge hotsteat.

Mauricio Pochettino is also heavily rumoured to be in the running and is second favourite currently, with the former Tottenham boss without a club after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Chelsea’s current coaching staff will take temporary charge of the team and will likely oversee their Premier League clash at west London rivals Fulham on Saturday, exclusively live on talkSPORT.

The Blues then face Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League next Wednesday before a blockbuster Premier League showdown against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge the following Sunday.

Chelsea confirmed their decision to sack Tuchel on Wednesday morning, saying in a statement: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
