Graham Potter tipped for return to management just hours after Chelsea sacking

Liverpool legend Michael Owen thinks Graham Potter could join Leicester – just hours after he was sacked by Chelsea.

Potter was shockingly sacked on Sunday night, less than seven months after joining Chelsea from Brighton, following a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday that had left the Blues in the bottom half of the table.

But he wasn’t the only Premier League manager to get the boot on Sunday, with Brendan Rodgers departing Leicester by mutual consent with the Foxes in the relegation zone.

A 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday – where they threw away the lead and lost in the 94th minute – brought to an end the Northern Irish manager’s mostly successful four year reign at the club.

Rafael Benitez and Thomas Frank initially emerged as the frontrunners to take over at the King Power but following the later events of the day, Potter now looks to be in pole position to replace Rodgers.

According to multiple reports, Leicester have held an interest in Potter for some time, especially following his success at Brighton.

Owen for one thinks it could happen, whilst also tipping Rodgers to make a sensational move to Stamford Bridge.

The legendarys striker posted on social media: ‘It’s sacking season in the Premier League.

‘You could make a case for Rodgers going to Chelsea and Potter going to Leicester.’

Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly Todd Boehly’s No.1 target to replace Potter but the former Bayern Munich boss is not keen on taking a new job on so soon after leaving the Allianz Arena.

The German was shockingly sacked during the international break and replaced by the man Potter replaced at Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel.

In the meantime, the Blues have confirmed that Bruno Saltor will take charge of the team for the home game against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
