Glen Johnson has warned Chelsea against pursuing a £100 million deal for Evan Ferguson and instead suggests that the club should focus on signing Karim Benzema this month. Despite their significant spending since Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022, Chelsea has had a disappointing start to the season, currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, is reportedly prioritizing the signing of an experienced center-forward before the transfer deadline. While Ivan Toney from Brentford and Victor Osimhen from Napoli have been mentioned as potential options, recent reports indicate that Chelsea has a long-standing interest in Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

However, Brighton is not eager to part with Ferguson and has placed a £100 million price tag on the young Republic of Ireland international. Glen Johnson, a former Chelsea player, believes that the club should not spend such a significant amount on a 19-year-old and instead should focus on signing an experienced striker who can immediately make an impact.

Johnson suggests that Karim Benzema would be an ideal signing for Chelsea. The French striker, who currently plays for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, is eager to return to Europe. Despite his impressive goal-scoring record in Saudi Arabia, Benzema is desperate for a move and Johnson believes that he would be a perfect fit for Chelsea.

Johnson emphasizes that Benzema’s experience and winning mentality would greatly benefit Chelsea. He describes Benzema as a “goal machine” who would easily adapt to the Premier League. Even if a loan deal is the only option, Johnson urges Chelsea to make a move for the Real Madrid legend.
