Getafe Considering Purchase of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United
Getafe, a La Liga team, is contemplating the possibility of acquiring Mason Greenwood from Manchester United. However, if the striker is sold to another club, Getafe stands to benefit from a 20% sell-on clause included in his loan agreement.
Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan during the final day of the summer transfer window and has already made an impact with four goals and three assists in 13 appearances.
Initially, Manchester United had planned to reintegrate Greenwood into the team after charges against him were dropped. However, following a backlash, they changed their stance.
Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United extends until 2025, with an option to extend for another year. The club intends for him to complete his rehabilitation on loan in Spain before securing a permanent move away.
Getafe President Angel Corres has expressed interest in purchasing the 22-year-old forward. If they decide to buy him outright, they will only have to pay 80% of the agreed price. Alternatively, if Manchester United sells him to another club, Getafe will receive 20% of the transfer fee.
Getafe does not expect Greenwood to return to Manchester United. They did not pay a loan fee for his services, and the 20% stake ensures that they will benefit regardless of his next move.
Corres stated that discussions regarding Greenwood’s future are ongoing, considering Manchester United’s impending partial sale. He believes in Greenwood’s potential and is satisfied with the progress he has made so far.
The deal between Getafe and Manchester United is mutually beneficial. Manchester United needed to find a club for Greenwood amid controversy, and Getafe was willing to take the risk. By rehabilitating and playing him, Getafe played a crucial role in his development and deserves compensation if he is sold to another club.
In conclusion, the potential purchase of Mason Greenwood by Getafe makes sense for both clubs. The agreement ensures that Getafe receives value for their investment in the player, while Manchester United finds a suitable environment for Greenwood’s growth and development.
