Georgia Star Tight End Brock Bowers Declares for NFL Draft
Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers has officially declared for the NFL Draft, marking the end of his highly successful college career. Bowers is expected to be a high first-round pick and one of the first skill position players selected. Despite facing injuries during his junior season, Bowers still managed to be a first-team All-American and his team’s leading receiver for three consecutive years at Georgia.
Bowers’ journey to success began as a four-star recruit from Napa, Calif. His stock was affected by the cancellation of his senior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Bowers took matters into his own hands by filming training videos of himself and sending them to Georgia coaches. Once he joined the team, it became evident that he possessed exceptional talent.
Although not physically imposing at 6-4 and 240 pounds, Bowers showcased his strength, speed, and playmaking abilities on the field. He brought a tenacious attitude to practice, workouts, and games, earning him praise from Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley. Bowers’ dedication and competitive spirit set him apart from his peers.
During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Bowers played in every game as Georgia won back-to-back national championships. Despite suffering a high ankle sprain in October, Bowers chose to return to the field after missing only two games. This decision showcased his toughness and resilience, although it may have impacted his performance in the SEC championship game against Alabama.
Georgia’s tight end position for the 2024 season will see a transition without Bowers. Oscar Delp, a four-star recruit from the same class as Bowers, showed promise in games where Bowers was absent due to injury. Delp’s strength and speed make him a formidable replacement, although he may not possess the same explosiveness as Bowers.
The Bulldogs also have two other scholarship tight ends returning, Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin, both of whom dealt with injuries during the season. Luckie’s development was interrupted by a high ankle sprain, which affected his confidence. Spurlin, a former receiver in high school, brings unique athleticism to the tight end position.
In addition, Georgia signed two highly touted tight ends in the Class of 2024: Jaden Reddell and Colton Heinrich. Both players enrolled early and participated in bowl practices, impressing the coaching staff with their potential.
As Brock Bowers moves on to the NFL, Georgia will look to its talented group of tight ends to fill the void left by his departure. With promising recruits and returning players, the Bulldogs remain optimistic about the future of the position.
