Gabriel Martinelli feels he’s not Arsenal’s quickest player, and has instead given that accolade to teammate Nuno Tavares.
Martinelli has impressed since joining the north London club from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019, especially in terms of his attacking intent.
The 20-year-old is always on the front foot, using his pace, trickery and dynamism to give opposition defenders a tough time.
He replied: ‘No. I am [quick] but it’s not me.
‘I think it’s Nuno [Tavares]. Nuno is really quick.’
Tavares moved to the Gunners from Benfica last summer, but has been behind Kieran Tierney in the pecking order of left-backs at the club.
The 22-year-old got his chance recently when Tierney was ruled out for the season through injury, however, he has struggled while filling in for his teammate.
Arsenal’s chances of landing a finish in the top four and a return to the Champions League were dealt a blow after their loss to Tottenham on Thursday night.
The 3-0 north London derby defeat has seen Spurs move to within a point of the Gunners, with two games left to play this season.
