Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou in good spirits at press conference ahead of October fight
Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou attended a press conference on Thursday ahead of their October fight and it was predictably unpredictable. Fury and Ngannou will box on 28 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the former UFC heavyweight champion hoping to cause one of the greatest upsets in sporting history by beating the unbeaten heavyweight champion of the boxing ring.
Both men were in good spirits as they laughed and smiled through their face-off, with Ngannou seemingly poking fun at the shape Fury is in less than two months before their bout. The Gypsy King took to the microphone beforehand, looking at a poster of himself and saying how good looking he is, before turning the praise on his opponent.
Fury Praises Ngannou
‘He’s a good looking lad, I do like him,’ Fury said of Ngannou. His next comment was, at best daft, but at worst insensitive and offensive as Fury said: ‘He’s probably got a big corey.’ Fury then chanted: ‘Get it out! Get it out!’ Ngannou certainly didn’t seem fussed and laughed along with the bizarre situation, as did his team.
Ngannou’s Warning to Fury
The Cameroonian had a more serious message for Fury, saying that if he lands his powerful right hand then the overwhelming favourite will be unconscious. ‘If it does land… good night. Lights off. What do you think will happen?’ Ngannou asked. ‘I mean, not to mention that this is a heavyweight fight. We know that anybody in the heavyweight division can knock anybody out. You don’t need to have a tremendous power.’
Fury’s Promise to Ngannou
Fury made a promise to his opponent, that if he does score an upset then they will share a drink after the game, although he did acknowledge that Ngannou does not drink alcohol. ‘If you win I’ll walk across the ring, shake your hand and take you out for a beer,’ said Fury. ‘Alcohol free of course.’
A Fight for the Ages
The fight between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou is sure to be one for the ages. Both men have promised an entertaining fight and have been in good spirits during their press conference. It remains to be seen who will come out on top when they face off on 28 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
