Frank Lampard revealed he will be sending Mason Mount a message of thanks after Chelsea did Everton a huge favour in the relegation battle.
Mount was exceptional, getting a goal and an assist, as the Blues beat Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road.
Not only was it a huge confidence booster for Chelsea ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final, it also was a brilliant result for their club legend Lampard.
He is trying to keep the Toffees in the top flight and Leeds are one of their rivals, with Jesse March’s side in the bottom three.
Everton are two points above Leeds and have a game in hand, but the result from his old club, who sacked him in January 2021, proved helpful.
Lampard told beIN SPORTS: “It was useful, it was.
“I’ll send him [Mason Mount] a message later of thanks. Those things are out of your hands but Mason’s a fantastic player and I’m pleased for him that he’s getting those numbers because he is a player of such a high level and those numbers reflect it.
“It’s brilliant for him and Chelsea did us a favour getting that result, but we have to make sure we do our own thing to get this over the line.”

There is plenty of history between Lampard, Mount and Leeds that dates back to when the pair were at Derby together.
Lampard was manager and Mount on loan when the whole spygate scandal broke out and culminated in a fiery play-off semi-final, which Derby won.
The England international cupped his ears to the Leeds fans after scoring for Chelsea and admitted he loved playing at Elland Road.
“It was a fun one,” he said after the game. “I love playing here, a stadium with a lot of history. Their fans were brilliant, they don’t like us too much! We got the goal and quietened them down, we could play our stuff. That was our goal.
“I was reading the programme before the game and it said make the stadium as hard to play as possible, or something like that. When you come here, you know it’ll be tough. We loved it.”
