Frank Lampard, the interim manager of Chelsea, has warned that it will take more than a “quick fix” to turn around the Blues’ current form. Lampard’s team has now suffered six consecutive defeats, leaving them in 12th place in the Premier League table, nine points above the relegation places. During their most recent match at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea were 3-0 down within 34 minutes, with Noni Madueke pulling one back in the 65th minute. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher commented on the situation, saying “This club is an absolute mess at the moment. It is embarrassing for Chelsea – it’s like five-a-side football.” Lampard stressed that the standards at the west London club are clear, despite their current position, and that the players care about the team. However, Chelsea have yet to win since Lampard’s appointment and have only scored two goals in their last eight games. Mauricio Pochettino is in advanced talks with Chelsea to be manager next season and Lampard admits there is a lot of work ahead. Captain Cesar Azpilicueta commented on the situation, saying “We didn’t expect to be here but that’s where we are. We’re the ones playing on the pitch and we have to turn this around.” Former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira believes that the players need to take responsibility for their performance, while former Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas offered some hope by saying “Six years ago, we finished 10th. We won the Premier League a year later. I lived it, it’s doable.”
