Frank Lampard: Everton players expect manager to be SACKED after crunch talks with Farhad Moshiri on Sunday

Everton players expect Frank Lampard to be sacked as manager, talkSPORT understands.

Lampard spoke with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri on Sunday but was given no assurances about his Goodison Park future.

It is believed the Everton hierarchy do not yet have a replacement lined up for Lampard with almost two weeks until their next Premier League game and retain huge respect for the 44-year-old.

But the former England international’s reign increasingly appears to be coming to an end after the 2-0 defeat at West Ham on Saturday left the Toffees rooted in the relegation zone.

Moshiri was at the London Stadium – the first match he has attended since October 2021 – and was asked after the game whether it was time for Lampard to be sacked after almost a year at the club.

“I can’t comment. It’s not my decision,” was his response.

Those remarks were met with bewilderment from fans and former players alike, especially after a couple of weeks ago Moshiri had said on talkSPORT he has sacked previous managers off the back of adverse reaction from supporters.

Discussions took place with Lampard on Sunday and it is widely expected he will be shown the door.

After the West Ham defeat, which is Everton’s eighth in their last ten outings, Lampard insisted he wasn’t worried about his future.

The ex-Chelsea boss said: “I absolutely don’t fear [the sack], I’m proud to do the job.

“I never get that far down the line to fear, I just do my job, I get up every day and think how we can get a little bit better, it’s as simple as that.”

Sean Dyche has emerged as the early favourite to be the next Everton manager should Lampard go, and that is a move that Stuart Pearce would back.

The England legend told talkSPORT: “Sean Dyche looks a natural fit.

“I hope Frank doesn’t part ways but at this moment in time, there is no part of Everton’s model that is unified.

“They are not playing particularly well, there is no confidence, there is a lot of pressure on the manager so he doesn’t feel free to manage, the fans are not happy with the board.

“The whole lot [is wrong] at Everton and you are sat there thinking, how are you going to address this, the whole downward spiral?

“I think Sean Dyche has the tools and personality to do it.”
