Nottingham Forest Reportedly Contacts Former Tottenham Manager Nuno Espirito Santo
Nottingham Forest has reportedly reached out to former Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo as Steve Cooper’s position hangs in the balance.
Cooper’s Struggles at Nottingham Forest
Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that Cooper will be sacked, as his team languishes in 17th place in the Premier League table.
Nottingham Forest is just five points above the relegation zone, with only three wins in 18 matches across all competitions. The team has also played one more game than 18th-placed Luton Town.
Santo Emerges as Top Candidate
While Cooper remains in the dugout for now, Nottingham Forest has reportedly identified Nuno Espirito Santo as his potential replacement. According to Fabrizio Romano, talks are already underway between the club and the 49-year-old manager.
Santo has been without a job since November when he was sacked by Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad. He has previously managed notable players such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho.
Santo’s Previous Experience
English fans may remember Santo from his successful spells in charge of Wolves and Tottenham. With Wolves, he won the Championship and guided the team to the quarter-finals of the Europa League. However, his tenure at Tottenham lasted only four months and was marred by criticism of his defensive style of play.
Santo has also managed Rio Ave and Porto in his native Portugal, as well as Spanish side Valencia.
Cooper’s Achievements at Nottingham Forest
Cooper joined Nottingham Forest in 2021 when the team was at the bottom of the Championship. He remarkably led them to promotion to the Premier League in the same season and defied the odds to keep them in the top flight.
Nottingham Forest’s next match is against in-form Bournemouth on Saturday.
