Former Man Utd youth player dies at 40 from pancreatic cancer
Tributes are pouring in for Bobby Power, a former Manchester United youth team player, who tragically passed away at the age of 40 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Bobby, who also starred as ‘Gorgeous’ Gordon Burley in the cult 2000 football film “There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble,” had been diagnosed with the disease and fought hard to find a cure.
Bobby had a great passion for football and was a beloved member of the Manchester United youth team. After his playing days, he dedicated himself to helping others as a personal trainer in the city. His love for fitness was evident, and if he wasn’t at the gym, he could be found climbing mountains. Bobby’s middle daughter, Kaitlyn Eadsforth, described him as a social butterfly who loved connecting with people. She said, “He was really outgoing. Literally anywhere he went, he would talk to anyone. He was like a social butterfly, in any room that he went in.”
Tragically, Bobby’s battle with cancer began when he started feeling unusually tired while scaling a mountain. He sought medical help and received the devastating diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Determined to fight for his life, Bobby dedicated himself to finding a cure and undergoing treatment. His mother, Estrella Barry, shared his unwavering determination, saying, “He spent the rest of his life trying to find a cure. He wanted to live for his girls. He did everything he could.”
Despite his efforts, Bobby’s health declined rapidly, and he tragically passed away in February. He is survived by his three daughters, Loren, 20, Kaitlyn, 19, and Heidi, 12. The news of his untimely death has touched the hearts of many, with tributes pouring in for the former football player and fitness enthusiast.
In honor of Bobby’s memory and his fight against cancer, his friend Leigh Sarsfield has started a JustGiving page. Leigh will run a 100-mile ultramarathon to raise money for the professionals who worked tirelessly to save Bobby. The funds raised will support the ongoing research and treatment of pancreatic cancer, helping others who are fighting the same battle.
Bobby Power’s story is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. His passion for football and his dedication to helping others will be remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of determination and resilience.
