Graham Potter Considered as Potential Replacement for Michael Beale at Rangers
Graham Potter is reportedly on the shortlist of potential replacements for Michael Beale as the manager of Rangers. Beale’s position is in jeopardy following a 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm derby last Sunday.
Potter, who previously managed Brighton, has been without a job since being sacked by Chelsea in April. He was 31 games into a five-year deal when he was let go. Despite being offered a chance to return to management with French club Lyon, Potter declined the opportunity and is now being considered by the Scottish giants.
Rangers currently trail league-leading Celtic by four points after four Premiership games. The recent loss to Celtic came on the back of a 7-3 aggregate defeat to PSV Eindhoven, which ended their Champions League qualification bid.
In addition to Potter, Birmingham boss John Eustace has also been linked with the Rangers job if the club decides to part ways with Beale.
Potter was previously wanted by Leicester in the summer but seems content to wait for the right opportunity before taking on his next managerial role. The 48-year-old received a significant pay-off following his departure from Chelsea, allowing him some time away from the game.
Potter has been involved in management for the past 12 years, starting his professional managerial career with Ostersund. He has also managed Swansea and Brighton, impressing with the latter before his move to Stamford Bridge in September of last year.
While at Chelsea, Potter struggled despite the club spending £330 million during the January transfer window. He only managed to win 12 out of 31 games in charge before being sacked by Todd Boehly.
In conclusion, Graham Potter is being considered as a potential replacement for Michael Beale at Rangers. The club’s recent poor performances have put Beale’s position in jeopardy, and Potter’s experience and success at previous clubs make him an attractive candidate. However, it remains to be seen if Rangers will ultimately decide to part ways with Beale and pursue Potter as their next manager.
