Former Premier League star Ovie Ejaria has become unemployed after his contract with Reading was terminated. The 26-year-old reached an agreement with the League One club to mutually end his deal before the January transfer window.
Ejaria has been sidelined this season due to injury issues and only managed to play eight league games last year. Although his contract was set to expire in the summer, it has been terminated early in an amicable manner.
Reading, looking to reduce their expenses, will now save money on Ejaria’s wages. The midfielder, who was once considered a wonderkid, had promising beginnings at Arsenal and Liverpool before joining Reading permanently for £3.5 million in 2020.
During his career, Ejaria made eight senior appearances for Liverpool and also had loan spells at Sunderland, Rangers, and Reading. He earned one cap for England’s Under-21 team and was part of the star-studded Under-20s squad that won the World Cup in 2017.
Currently, Reading is struggling in 23rd place in League One and is facing a relegation battle.
