Nottingham Forest Set to Sign Arsenal Goalkeeper Matt Turner
Nottingham Forest has reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign goalkeeper Matt Turner. The USMNT international is expected to undergo a medical examination later today, confirming his move to Forest. This news comes after The Athletic revealed Forest’s interest in Turner, and negotiations between the two clubs have now resulted in a compromise.
In response to Turner’s departure, Arsenal is working on finalizing the acquisition of Brentford’s David Raya. The Gunners are looking to replace Turner and provide competition for their existing number one goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale. Although an opening offer for Raya was initially turned down, discussions between the two clubs have continued as they aim to strike a deal. Raya is currently in the final year of his contract with Brentford.
Turner joined Arsenal from MLS side New England Revolution and has been targeted by Nottingham Forest as one of several players to fill the void left by the end of Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas’ loan spells. Forest remains determined to bring Henderson back to the City Ground and ongoing discussions are being held with Manchester United. The negotiations have centered around an appearance clause in a loan-to-buy agreement.
Henderson, the 26-year-old England international, is still working on regaining match fitness following a thigh injury that ended his season after 18 appearances for Forest. He has yet to feature for Manchester United during their pre-season matches.
In addition to Turner, Nottingham Forest has also shown interest in Wolves’ Jose Sa and New England Revolution’s current goalkeeper, Djordie Petrovic. However, both Forest and Ligue 1 side Nantes have had their offers of $8 million (£6.3 million) for the 23-year-old Petrovic rejected.
Nottingham Forest currently has Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath as goalkeeping options. Hennessey is carrying a slight injury, which has given Horvath, another USMNT international, the opportunity to feature regularly in pre-season after his loan spell at Luton Town last season.
Despite being the USMNT’s number one goalkeeper, Turner has struggled for minutes since joining Arsenal last summer. This move to Nottingham Forest presents an opportunity for him to secure more playing time and continue his development.
In conclusion, Nottingham Forest’s acquisition of Matt Turner from Arsenal is set to be finalized after a successful agreement between the two clubs. This transfer is part of a larger goalkeeping shuffle, with Arsenal working on securing David Raya as Turner’s replacement. Nottingham Forest remains determined to bring Dean Henderson back to the club and discussions are ongoing with Manchester United. The addition of Turner to Forest’s squad will provide them with a talented goalkeeper who has the potential to make a significant impact.
