Fleetwood Appoints Charlie Adam as New Head Coach
Fleetwood has announced the appointment of former Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam as their new head coach.
Replacing Lee Johnson
The 38-year-old Adam has been brought in to replace Lee Johnson, who was sacked on Saturday after a nine-game winless streak.
Adam, who retired in 2022 after playing for clubs like Rangers, Liverpool, Blackpool, and Stoke City, will be taking on his first managerial role.
Continuity in Leadership
Adam becomes the third boss at Fleetwood this season, following Johnson and Scott Brown.
He has been working as a coach with Premier League side Burnley as their loan manager and has also been involved with their under-21 players.
New Coaching Team
Maurice Ross will join Fleetwood as the assistant coach, while former Fleetwood player Ross Wallace will become the first-team coach. Their first game in charge will be against Shrewsbury on Monday.
Adam’s Vision for Fleetwood
“I’m delighted to join a club I know well and one which we feel we can make a real difference with,” said Adam.
“Fleetwood is a hard-working, honest, and passionate town, and the football club must reflect that. The players have to be proud to pull on the shirt and represent what the club and the town stand for.
“It’s now important we see togetherness from the players, staff, and crucially the supporters to help turn results around. We can’t wait to get started.”
A Successful Playing Career
Adam, who started his playing career with Rangers, earned 26 caps for Scotland after making his international debut in 2007.
He moved to Blackpool in 2009 and then joined Liverpool two years later, where he made 37 appearances and scored two goals.
Adam spent seven years at Stoke City, playing 156 times before joining Reading and eventually retiring after a spell with Dundee.
With his experience as a player and his coaching background, Adam aims to lead Fleetwood to success in the upcoming matches.
