Liverpool fans were left emotional as Roberto Firmino scored in his farewell game for the club. The Brazilian was given a start by manager Jurgen Klopp in what was his final appearance for Liverpool. Firmino will be leaving the club at the end of the season, although his next destination has not yet been confirmed. Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been linked with the forward.
In the game against Southampton, Diogo Jota opened the scoring before Firmino netted a second by nutmegging Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in the 14th minute. However, James Ward-Prowse got one back just five minutes later, and Kamaldeen Sulemana completed the comeback to make it 2-2, with Theo Walcott grabbing the assist.
Southampton then went on to score two more goals in the second half through Sulemana and Adam Armstrong, making it 4-2. Liverpool managed to pull it back to 4-4 with Jota getting a second and Gakpo also scoring.
Firmino celebrated with his teammates after scoring in his final Liverpool game. He is not the only player leaving the club this summer, as James Milner was also named in the starting line-up and is likely to sign for Brighton. Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has also been linked with a move away, was named in the starting XI in place of Alisson Becker.
