Bruno Fernandes, the star player of Manchester United, has claimed that many fans did not expect the team to finish in the top six this season. The Red Devils have had a successful first season under Erik ten Hag and are currently in the top four, with a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League, in addition to their Carabao Cup success. Fernandes believes that fans expected them to be lower in the standings this time round. He revealed that the club’s ambitions for next season are to secure Champions League football, stating that the team deserves to be in that position. Despite exceeding expectations this season, Fernandes believes that soon the club and its players will be fighting for much bigger things. Manchester United spent £220million over the summer and are among the biggest clubs in world football. They sit fourth with four matches left to play and one point ahead of rivals Liverpool with a game in hand. Should they keep hold of fourth spot, they will return to the Champions League after a one-year absence from the competition.
