Harry Kane’s Failed Attempt to Attract England Team-Mate to Bayern Munich
In a surprising turn of events, it has been revealed that Harry Kane attempted to persuade his England team-mate, Kieran Trippier, to sign for Bayern Munich during the January transfer window. However, Newcastle swiftly rejected a £12.5 million bid from the German giants for their right-back.
Trippier, 33, admitted that he was flattered by the interest from Bayern Munich, especially since it came as a shock to him. He recounted the moment he received the news while on holiday in New York, saying, “I was woken at 5am being told that Bayern Munich wanted to sign me. I never thought at 33 that Bayern would want to sign me, so it was more of a shock to me than anybody.”
It seems that Kane was persistent in his attempts to lure Trippier away from Newcastle. Trippier mentioned that Kane was texting him, joking about the warmer weather in Munich compared to Newcastle. Despite the banter and the flattering offer, Trippier remained loyal to Newcastle and never once tried to force a move out of the club.
Unfortunately, Trippier will miss this month’s England friendlies against Brazil and Belgium due to a calf injury. However, he is still expected to be part of Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad. The 46-cap defender expressed confidence in England’s chances at the tournament, stating, “We can’t be afraid to say that we can win it. We’ve got an unbelievable squad.”
Trippier has already experienced success on the international stage, having been part of the England side that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals. Although they faced heartbreak in the Euro 2021 final, Trippier believes that this current generation, with emerging talents like Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden, has the potential to go even further. He said, “It’s crazy because the last World Cup compared to now, all the young players have come out of nowhere. You see the level that everyone is playing at now, so hopefully we can go one step further and win the tournament.”
It is clear that Trippier’s loyalty to Newcastle prevailed over the tempting offer from Bayern Munich. While he missed out on the opportunity to join forces with his England teammate in Germany, he remains focused on his club and country commitments. As England prepares for the upcoming Euros, Trippier’s experience and determination will undoubtedly be valuable assets for Gareth Southgate’s side.
