Cesc Fabregas has expressed his disagreement with Chelsea’s decision to sack Graham Potter after less than seven months in the job. The former Blues midfielder believes the club panicked and should have given Potter more time to turn the club’s fortunes around. Despite Potter’s poor results, Fabregas believes he was the right man for the job.
Chelsea then appointed club legend Frank Lampard as caretaker manager until the end of the season, but the team continued to struggle and eventually finished 12th. Following this, ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was confirmed as Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in five years. Fabregas has praised Pochettino, saying he is a ‘very reasonable man’ and ‘gives a lot of confidence to younger players’. He added that he hopes Pochettino is the right man to bring Chelsea back to where they belong. Chelsea have given Pochettino a two-year contract, with the option of a further year, and he will begin the role at the start of July.
