FA investigating ‘suspicious betting pattern’ after Arsenal thrash Oxford 3-0 in FA Cup clash involving specific incident over one player

    The Football Association are investigating suspicious betting during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Oxford United in the FA Cup.

    The investigation concerns a specific incident concerning an Oxford player during the match at the Kassam Stadium on Monday night.

    According to the Daily Mail, defender Ciaron Brown has been flagged after getting booked against the Gunners and the FA have a dossier of evidence.

    It includes alleged phone messages before kick-off claiming that Brown would get booked in a betting scam that allegedly cost one bookmaker around £1,600.

    One purported message is said to gave showed a betting slip with near £200 staked on the Oxford star being booked at odds of 8-1.

    Brown was showed a yellow card after 59 minutes for fouling Bukayo Saka just before Arsenal took the lead through Mohamed Elneny.

    Oxford released a statement where they said that they are ‘aware of a specific allegation of irregular betting’.

    They wrote: “Oxford United can confirm that they have been made aware of a specific allegation of irregular betting around our Emirates FA Cup game against Arsenal on Monday evening.

    “The club will co-operate fully with any investigation and while this is ongoing, we are unable to make any further comment.”

    Arsenal cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over the League One side on Monday night.

    Elneny opened the scoring in the second-half before Eddie Nketiah netted a double to continue his fine form since stepping up in Gabriel Jesus’ absence.

    It is now four goals in four for the Arsenal striker while the Gunners have drawn Manchester City in the next round in a tantalising tie.

    It means Mikel Arteta has three important fixtures coming up, with Premier League matches against Tottenham and Manchester United to follow before facing City in the FA Cup.

    Arsenal are still hoping to make signings this month with Mykhaylo Mudryk being prioritised while target Joao Felix has since signed for Chelsea on loan.
