FA Cup 2023 Prize Money: Winner’s Share

Date:

As Manchester City take on Manchester United in this weekend’s FA Cup final, there’s so much at stake. City are the favourites – and having triumphed over Arsenal to defend their Premier League title, they’re also aiming to take the FA Cup and the Champions League (on June 10 against Inter Milan) for the treble. They also have their not-so-secret weapon, striker Erling Haaland, who has scored an incredible 52 goals in 51 games, including a record-breaking 36 in the league. But United are determined to stop them and retain their title as the only English side to have won a continental treble – back in 1999. Plus, City manager Pep Guardiola has said that five players are currently battling injuries. So, as the teams prepare for the mighty derby at Wembley – kick off 3pm tomorrow, Saturday, June 3 – there is also a lot of money at stake. The winning club will take home £2 million – that’s up from the £1.8 million netted by last year’s winners, Liverpool. Meanwhile, the runners-up take home £1 million – compared to the £900,000 taken home by Chelsea last year after their defeat on penalties. Both City and United took home £1 million each for winning their semi-finals. Around 90,000 fans will be packed into a sold-out Wembley Stadium, where 1,200 police will be deployed to ensure everything goes smoothly. Fans travelling from Manchester by road (due to the train strike) have been allocated different motorway service stations to minimise disruption. The BBC will kick off its coverage at 12 noon with Football Focus followed by’the road to Wembley’, while ITV’s coverage starts at 2.05pm (due to the Epsom Derby on the same day). Both, of course, are free-to-air. Following his spat with BBC bosses earlier this year over his social media, Gary Lineker will be hosting the corporation’s coverage. You will also be able to stream the game live via BBC iPlayer and ITVX. If you’re outside the UK, the FA has a full list of channels across the world which will be broadcasting it.
