Formula One Returns: What to Expect in the Second Half of the 2023 Season

It’s been nearly a month since we saw Formula One cars vying for points and position on the track, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t learn anything during the 2023’s summer break. While Charles Leclerc was in Corsica and Max Verstappen was sim racing, we took stock of what we saw in the first 12 races of the year and considered what to expect from the final 10.

Now, after making some predictions, issuing report cards, and sorting through silly season rumors, we want to know what you want to know as the break wraps up and we return to action this weekend at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix.

Drop your queries below, and we’ll provide answers in this week’s mailbag.

The first half of the 2023 Formula One season has been nothing short of thrilling. With intense battles on the track, unexpected results, and a fierce competition between the top teams, fans have been treated to some unforgettable moments. As we gear up for the second half of the season, let’s take a look at what we can expect.

1. The Battle for the Championship

The fight for the championship has been incredibly close so far, with Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc all in contention. Hamilton currently leads the standings, but Verstappen is hot on his heels. Leclerc, despite some bad luck in the first half of the season, has shown great potential and could be a dark horse in the championship battle. It will be fascinating to see how these three drivers perform in the remaining races.

2. The Rise of Red Bull

Red Bull Racing has been a force to be reckoned with this season. Their car has shown impressive speed and reliability, allowing Verstappen to challenge Hamilton for the championship. With upgrades planned for the second half of the season, Red Bull could become even more dominant. Will they be able to maintain their momentum and secure the constructors’ championship?

3. Ferrari’s Resurgence

After a disappointing 2022 season, Ferrari has made a strong comeback in 2023. Leclerc has been consistently delivering strong performances, and his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. has also shown flashes of brilliance. The team’s improved pace and strategy have put them in a favorable position for the second half of the season. Can Ferrari continue their upward trajectory and challenge for race wins?

4. The Battle in the Midfield

While the focus is often on the championship contenders, the battle in the midfield is just as exciting. Teams like McLaren, Alpine, and Aston Martin have been locked in a tight battle for crucial points. The midfield battle is not only about bragging rights but also about securing valuable prize money and attracting sponsors. Expect fierce battles and unpredictable results in this highly competitive group.

5. New Circuits and Challenges

The second half of the season will feature some exciting new additions to the calendar, including the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The return of this historic circuit is highly anticipated, and it will provide a unique challenge for the drivers. Additionally, races at iconic tracks like Monza and Spa-Francorchamps will test the drivers’ skills and provide thrilling moments for fans.

As Formula One returns from its summer break, fans can look forward to an action-packed second half of the season. The battle for the championship, the rise of Red Bull, Ferrari’s resurgence, the midfield battles, and the challenges of new circuits will make for an exhilarating spectacle. Buckle up and get ready for some high-speed drama on the track.
